'Fly Asia', a start-up festival in Asia, will open in Busan on October 5.

The Busan Metropolitan Government announced on September 19 that it will hold 'Fly Asia 2023' at BEXCO 2nd Exhibition Center in Haeundae-gu, Busan on October 5-8.

Under the theme of "From Cities to Startups," this year's expo is expected to be attended by more than 1,000 officials involved in startups home and abroad, 400 investors, and 10,000 prospective start-ups.

The opening ceremony at 3 p.m. on October 5 will be followed by: City Leaders Summit, academic events and conference between start-up city officials; LP Summit, investor talks; VC Forum, investors' discussion; Awards, a competition with a total prize of USD 180,000; Meet Up, one-on-one investment consultation; and exhibition of companies' products.

Margus Magi, eGovernment Advisor of Estonia, which emerged as a start-up powerhouse by introducing e-Residency, will deliver a keynote speech at the keynote session.

The City Leaders Summit will be attended by policy officials engaged in 8 leading startup cities, including Shanghai, Shenzhen (China), Hong Kong, Singapore, Osaka (Japan), and Jakarta (Indonesia), start-up support organizations and investors -who are expected to declare cooperation among cities.

The LP Summit will be attended by more than 20 domestic and foreign investment institutions, including Asia and the Middle East, while the VC Forum will be joined by major investors from Singapore, Indonesia and Vietnam.

In addition, more than 700 one-on-one investment consultations are scheduled between investment companies and startups, with 20 domestic and foreign buyers attending.

This year, the Cine Fly Awards, which focuses on startups in the field of film, video and content, was newly established in cooperation with the Busan International Film Festival's Asian Content Film Market and the Cannes Film Festival, one of the world's top three film festivals.

Also, the 'Busan Initiative Awards' was created to promote the hosting of the 2030 Busan World Expo and foster startups in Busan.

Lotte, Hyundai Motor, SK EcoPlant, Mega Zone Soft, and IBK will participate in the open innovation program, which converges the resources of large companies and the ideas of startups.

The Busan Metropolitan Government said it will also introduce a variety of programs in cooperation with the Korea Development Bank, which is seeking to relocate to Busan.
