Busan-si announced that it will sign a concession agreement on the "Project to establish OTT platform base Busan shooting studio" with Gijang-gun and the Korean Film Council (KOFIC) at City Hall on June 3.
Busan-si, Gijang-gun, and KOFIC will cooperate to provide administrative support for the creation of Busan filming studio, free use of the site, concentration of production infrastructure, and foster the video and film industries based on the advanced technology.
OTT specialized studio will enable real-time editing and filming through convergence of hyper-realistic media technologies, bolstering the capabilities of K-content producing companies and securing differentiated content.
The city plans to establish Busan, where a shooting studio is under construction in line with rapidly increasing demand for high-quality media content due to transition to non-face-to-face society and the development of digital innovation technologies, into OTT platform production hub.
Busan-si explained that "despite Busan's strength as a local shooting site thanks to diverse natural environments and tourism resources, only 30 films have been shot compared to inquiries from 117 films in the past four years because of the lack of the filming infrastructure," adding that "it's urgent to establish the cutting-edge content production hub in response to the globalization of K-content."
The Busan filming studio will be established by 2027 on 11,272㎡ of site in Gijang Ceramics Village, Jangan-eup, Gijang-gun, and composed of a shooting studio, a virtual production making system, and an open experience studio.
