The Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources (KIGAM) has announced that the 2024 International Geological Congress (IGC) will be held at Busan’s BEXCO. The event, which runs from August 25th to August 31st, 2024, will be held in collaboration with the Geological Society of Korea and the city of Busan.

Often dubbed the “Olympics of Geoscience,” the IGC is a prestigious event that takes place every four years and is rotated among continents. The 2024 congress will be the first to take place in eight years, following delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic and around 7,000 participants, including geologists from 121 countries, are expected to attend. It will be the first time the IGC is hosted in Korea and the first time in 28 years that East Asia hosts the event.
