According to Yonhap News,

Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) has been steadily flowing into the Busan-Jinhae Free Economic Zone (BJFEZ) since the beginning of the year, and it is expected to easily meet this year’s investment target of USD 180 million.

According to the BJFEZ Authority on February 13, the FDI pledged in the BJFEZ until the previous day totaled USD 39 million, reaching USD 35 million on an arrival basis.

The target for this year’s FDI is USD 180 million dollars (on a reported basis), and 21% of this target has already been achieved.

Investments include the LX Pantos Busan New Port Logistics Center (USD 2.47 million pledged, USD 2.51 million received), MITSUI-SOKO Korea in the Ungdong district (USD 10.1 million pledged), and Pusan Cable & Engineering in the Busan Science Industrial Complex (USD 11.8 million pledged).

Last year, FDI in the BJFEZ reached USD 275 million, exceeding the annual target by 153%.

Domestic investment also reached KRW 831.1 billion.

Since the establishment of the BJFEZ Authority in 2004, the cumulative pledged FDI has reached USD 4.72 billion, with the arrival amount standing at USD 3.42 billion.

The major investment countries are Europe (USD 1.53 billion), Asia (USD 1.13 billion), the Americas (USD 730 million), and Japan (USD 370 million).

For 2024, the breakdown of FDI based on industry is as follows: Advanced Industries USD 206 milliom (75%); Logistics USD 30 million (11%); Research and Development (R&D) and other industries USD 39 million (14%).

Notable investments include Microsoft’s increased investment in its data center, Prestige BioPharma’s investment in establishing a medical and bio R&D center, and expansions of DP World Busan Logistics Center and MITSUI-SOKO Korea Logistics Center.

These achievements are seen as a result of the global investment competitiveness of the BJFEZ and the active investment attraction efforts of the BJFEZ Authority, including improvements in the institutional framework.
