According to Yonhap News,

On May 12, the Busan-Jinhae Free Economic Zone Authority (BJFEZ) announced that it has recorded foreign direct investment (FDI) of USD 352 million as of April this year.

This marks a 66% increase compared to USD 211.69 million in the same period last year, a significant achievement considering the challenging external conditions such as the global economic slowdown and supply chain uncertainties.

The Authority has been shifting its investment attraction focus from a traditional manufacturing-based portfolio to the one centered around high-value-added service industries and multi-purpose development investments.

Indeed, most of the foreign-invested companies attracted this year have been a mixed investment model combining advanced industries, smart logistics, and global research and development functions, which is expected to have a positive impact on both urban living conditions and the overall industrial ecosystem.

The BJFEZ anticipates that the investment performance for this year will generate approximately KRW 830 billion in production effects and create 2,800 direct and indirect jobs.

The head of BJFEZ stated that "The BJFEZ is evolving beyond just an industrial complex into an urban, integrated economic hub where global talent and technology converge. In the second half of this year, we will continue to establish partnerships with companies from the Middle East, North America, and Asia, focusing on strategic industries, and continue expand a sustainable investment ecosystem."
