Nongshim Breaks Ground on its export-oriented instant noodle factory in Noksan, Busan
Nongshim is building an export-oriented instant noodle production plant in Busan, with the goal of completing it in the second half of next year. The plant will have an annual production capacity of 500 million noodles for export.
On May 27th, Nongshim announced that it held a groundbreaking ceremony for the export-oriented factory in Noksan, Busan, the previous day.
The Noksan export factory will serve as Nongshim's new export product production base and will be built on the available land at the existing Noksan plant.
The factory will be built in area of 11,280㎡ (approximately 3,400 pyeong) and have a total floor area of 48,100㎡ (approximately 14,500 pyeong), with construction scheduled for completion in the second half of next year.
Once the Noksan export factory is completed, Nongshim plans to operate three production lines initially, with the goal of producing 500 million noodles annually.
When combined with the annual production of 600 million noodles at the Busan plant, which has been solely responsible for export-oriented production, and the 100 million noodles produced for export at the Gumi plant, Nongshim's annual export-oriented production of instant noodles will reach 1.2 billion noodles, doubling the current production capacity.
Nongshim plans to expand production lines factoring in overseas sales performance to further increase production capacity.
A company representative stated, "In line with the growth of overseas markets, we can triple production capacity by adding up to eight production lines at the Noksan export factory."
The export-oriented plant will be built using Nongshim's AI smart factory know-how, accumulated over decades of operating domestic and international plants.
It will feature a quality inspection system that applies "Nongshim's AI Deep Learning" technology and a system that predicts and responds to issues using big data.
Additionally, the factory will be equipped with energy-saving facilities to optimize energy use, operating as an environmentally friendly plant.
Nongshim established its European branch, Nongshim Europe B.V., in Amsterdam in March, accelerating its efforts to penetrate the European market.
With the production capacity of the Noksan plant, Nongshim plans to expand sales of its major products like Shin Ramyeon in Europe and introduce new products tailored to local preferences. The company aim to quadruple its European sales by 2030.
It also expects that the construction of the Noksan plant will enable it to target the growing instant noodle markets in South America and South Asia.
