(Busan=Yonhap News) Reporter Park Chang-soo = The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF) and the Busan Port Authority (BPA) are launching an initiative to promote logistics automation and digital transformation for resident companies within the Busan Port New Port Distripark.

BPA announced on the 7th that it will execute a smart logistics transformation support project for resident enterprises in the Busan Port New Port Distripark, committing KRW 10.5 billion (USD 7.89 million) in joint funding alongside the MOF.

Aimed at enhancing productivity, reducing logistics costs, and bolstering corporate competitiveness through logistics automation and digitalization, the project features policy and budgetary backing from MOF, while BPA oversees corporate selection and project management.

BPA will select three small enterprises and two innovation-category firms, providing up to 70% state subsidy for the adoption of logistics equipment and systems utilizing smart technologies—such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), automation, integrated platforms, and the Internet of Things (IoT)—through 2028.

The subsidy allocation includes KRW 1.4 billion (USD 1.05 million) per small enterprise and KRW 3.15 billion (USD 2.37 million) per innovation-category enterprise.

Following project announcements and briefing sessions in September, BPA plans to select beneficiary companies by October and initiate the smart logistics conversion project in the second half of this year upon signing formal agreements.

Song Sang-keun, President of BPA, stated, "Thanks to active policy and budgetary support from the central government, we can now accelerate the smart logistics transition within the Busan Port New Port Distripark," adding, "We will execute this project seamlessly to drive productivity gains for resident firms and strengthen the overall competitiveness of Busan Port."
