(GOESAN=Yonhap News) The 'Goesan Asia Organic Congress 2016' is taking place at the Chungbuk Organic Agriculture Research Center in Goesan, North Chungcheong Province for five days from Sep 28 to Oct 2, 2016.

The congress is a follow-up event of the Goesan International Organic Expo held between September and October last year.

At the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM) ASIA Organic Congress scheduled on Sep 29, a figure who contributed to the development of organic agriculture will be awarded with the 'Asia Organic Leader Prize.'

A special seminar on the 'International Year of Pulses', this year's theme declared by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, will be held for the first time in Asia.

On the sidelines of the congress, the second Asia Local Government Summit and the Organic Festival are planned.

The summit will draw around 60 leaders of local governments and private organizations from 15 Asian countries to share information and best practices in the organic agriculture field.

The two-day Organic Festival taking place between Oct 1 to 2 will provide opportunities for producers and consumers to sell and experience organic products.

At the closing ceremony, participants will issue a manifesto to deliver on action plans of Organic 3.0 Goesan Declaration proclaimed at the Goesan International Organic Expo.
