According to Yonhap News,

(CHEONGJU=Yonhap News) The number of passengers travelled through Cheongju International Airport surpassed the 20 million mark.

On August 30, the Korean Airports Corporation said the number of Cheongju Airport passengers recorded 20.008 as of August 29.

It is an increase of 25.4 percent (406,953 passengers) from the same period last year.

The date surpassing the annual 20 million passenger mark also came 59 days ahead (October 27, 2018).

The number of international airline passengers increased 105.8 percent year-on-year to 380,103.

The number of domestic airline passengers recorded 1.628 million, 14.9 percent up year-on-year.

This is the first time in three years to see an increase in the number of Cheongju Airport passengers.

The number of annual passengers increased to 2.73 million in 2016, from 2.11 million in 2015, 1.7 million in 2014. However, it plummeted since the late 2016, with Chinese retaliation for the THAAD deployment.

With the Japanese economic retaliation, the rate of using the Japanese routes declined. However, it was made up for by an increase in the number of passengers in Jeju routes, Northeast and Southeast Asian routes, and Chinese.

Cheongju Aiport has 11 regular operations for four countries including China, Japan, Taiwan, and the U.S., and 4 irregular operations for Mongol, Russia and Vietnam.
