4 municipal authorities in Chungcheong Prov. to form the largest tech-hub
Spearheading a project to develop the communities near Chungcheong Province into a global hub of innovation, being a center for materials and components production, North Chungcheong Province rolled out a plan for partnership with nearby municipalities; South Chungcheong Province, Sejong City and Daejeon city.
North Chungcheong Province said on Dec 17 that these four municipal authorities agreed upon the development plan, forming a tech-cluster, specializing in materials and components business, underpinning technologies of the upcoming fourth industrial revolution. Under the pact, these facilities are scheduled to be located across Osong and Ochang in Cheongju city, Ilwon in Chungju city (N. Chungcheong Prov.), Cheonan and Asan city (S. Chungcheong Prov.), Innopolis Daedeok in Daejeon city and Sejong city.
Based upon the tech-base in Chungcheong Province, the authorities expect to help the auto part industry further competent for the future of mobility. They plan to build up a test track for self-driving cars, named ‘C-Track, which refers to as ‘Chungbuk, Creative, Cooperative’ testing ground to run simulation, on a 83,096 ㎡ site within Chungbuk University, Ochang campus.
Meanwhile, Chungju city, where a second hydrogen fuel cell factory is located, is planned to reborn as a mecca for auto parts manufacturing, applied to hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) production. By building out industry base to improve production capacity in Chungcheong Province, the authorities plan to help the green car business take the leadership role, being self-sufficient in technologies.
An industry cluster, which aims to promote technological convergence harnessing solutions to produce semiconductor products in Cheongju city, display materials in Cheonan city and services applicable to smart city and vehicle technologies in Sejong city, will be established. Defining goals to generate decent work for local residents, while ramping up manufacturing competitiveness, the cluster will drive agglomeration of tech-intensive, value-added high-tech business.
In South Chungcheong Province, there will be a testing ground to demonstrate emissions monitoring system and its sensor technology.
Alongside the formation of the technology simulation facilities, an integrated platform dedicated to research work for the future of materials and a tech-support center in association with Innopolis Daedeok and Sejong industry clusters are also founded.
The total cost for the project is estimated to total KRW 690.3 billion. Reviewing the draft, four municipal authorities in Chungcheong Province involved will form a special committee to push ahead with detailed action plans.
