According to Yonhap News,

Chungbuk-do, Eumseong-gun, and the Korea Conformity Laboratories (KCL) signed an MOU to establish a 'Central Region Technical Support Center for Battery Second Use' on December 10.

Chungcheongbuk-do and Eumseong-gun will support the budget necessary for construction of the center and expedite administrative matters such as licensing and permission.

KCL promised to actively carry out detailed implementation plans, purchase locally produced materials and hire local talents first.

Previously, Chungbuk-do was selected first in Central Region to a project for technical support center for battery second use in an energy technology development project public contest hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy in May.

The center will be built within the Eumseong Seongbon Industrial Complex, with an investment of KRW 17.1 billion, including KRW 7.3 billion from the government, by 2023.

This center is in charge of developing technologies for performance and safety evaluation of used batteries and establishing a certification system for secondary battery to support utilization of used batteries, which has increased rapidly due to the spread of electric vehicles.

In addition, it develops a technology to reduce the battery's residual performance measurement time and provides a reliable one-stop transaction service through management of battery analysis data record and usage history.
