On May 17, Jecheon-si, Chungbuk-do announced that it has been selected for "2024 BETTER-ri (里): a project to support an increase of tourism population" organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) and the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO).

It is a project to support startups to discover business models taking advantage of local culture and tourism resources, thereby facilitating longer-stay tourism.

After Jecheon being selected for this project, the city will support investment and business development of startups in the tourism sector by investing KRW 350 million of national fund and KRW 200 million of local fund in this year and next year.

It plans to confirm the specifics of the project in next month after consultation with the KTO and push for the project in earnest from July.

A city official said, "with collaboration with creative startups, we will contribute to revitalizing local economy and attracting tourists by becoming the top longer-stay tourism destination in the central region."
