Chungbuk-do has surpassed KRW 60 trillion in investment attraction three years after since the launch of the 8th popularly elected local government.

On June 17, Chungbuk-do and the Cheongju Chamber of Commerce held a commemorative event for reaching the KRW 60 trillion milestone in investment attraction at the Enford Hotel in Cheongju.

Ahead of the event, Cheongju-si and LG Energy Solutions signed an investment agreement , while Yeongdong-gun and Sempio Foods also signed an investment agreement, bringing the total accumulated investment attracted by Chungbuk-do under the 8th local government to KRW 60.1452 trillion.

LG Energy Solutions plans to establish a battery research and manufacturing facility in the Ochang Science Industrial Complex in Cheongju, while Sempio Foods plans to expand its production facilities at its Yeongdong plant.

Since July 2022, 1,231 companies, including SK hynix, LG Chem, and Hyundai Mobis, have signed investment agreements with Chungbuk-do and 11 cities and counties.

These companies are expected to create 55,368 jobs.

In terms of industry sectors, advanced industries such as semiconductors, ICT convergence, secondary batteries, new energy, and bio industries account for 75.3% of the total investment amount.

Initially, Chungbuk Province had set an investment attraction target of KRW 60 trillion KRW over four years under the 8th local government. With the achieving this goal early, the province plans to continue to attract investment with the focus on pioneering new industries, such as knowledge-based services.

Additionally, aligned with the new government's policy agenda, the province plans to attract advanced bio companies centered around Osong, as well as startups and venture companies in fields such as artificial intelligence (AI), advanced mobility, robotics, and quantum computing.
