Electric Vehicle Battery Fire Safety and Performance Test and Evaluation Center to be established in Cheongju
A test and evaluation center will be established in Ochang, Cheongju to support the development of high-performance and high-safety electric vehicle batteries with secure fire safety.
On October 16th, the Korea Testing Laboratory (KTC) held a groundbreaking ceremony for the "Electric Vehicle Battery Fire Safety and Performance Test and Evaluation Center" at the Ochang Techno-Polis Industrial Complex.
The construction of this center is part of a project initiated through a public competition organized by the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy in May last year.
The test and evaluation center will be built by next year with a total floor area of 4,300㎡ at an estimated cost of KRW 47.5 billion. The center will include two pack testing buildings and three module testing buildings that can conduct fire safety tests for batteries according to international standards. Additionally, it will house 13 types of testing equipment.
The center aims to support battery fire safety tests and technology development, develop safety evaluation-related standardization, and run educational and training programs for test and Evaluation fields in collaboration with local universities and businesses.
An official from Chungbuk-do said, "Once the test and evaluation center goes into operation, it is expected to promote product technology cooperation and joint growth between battery manufacturers, material, component, and equipment companies, as well as manufacturers of applied products."
