According to Newsis,
(Cheongju = Newsis) Reporter Yeon Hyeon-cheol = North Chungcheong Province announced on the 25th that its youth employment rate reached 74.2 percent last year, ranking first in the country.
This figure is 2.7 percentage points higher than the national average (71.5 percent). Conversely, the youth unemployment rate stood at 2 percent, the lowest in South Korea.
The youth population movement has shifted from an outflow to an influx for the first time in over 10 years.
As of November last year, the number of young people returning to the region was 1,433 more than those who left.
The province analyzed that this was due to innovative job projects that deviated from standardized methods and reflected regional characteristics and demand by group, such as:
- Urban Workers
- Joy of Working (Youth and Women’s Jobs)
- Urban Farmers
Last year, the province also supported social entry and experience through:
- 2030 Tailored Support (753 people)
- Work Experience for Unemployed Youth (100 people)
- Regionally-led Jobs (170 people).
It also focused on retention and entrepreneurship support through:
- Retention Support for Youth in SMEs (195 people)
- Startup Cheer-up Funds for Young Small Business Owners (1,165 people)
- Commuting Support for Industrial Complexes (9 complexes)
A provincial official stated, "In the face of regional extinction, jobs are the most fundamental solution to increase the likelihood of youth settling in the area. In 2026, we will create a 'Chungbuk where youth return, stay, and grow' through tailored projects that youth can truly feel."
