[Cheongju = Newsis] Reporter Lee Do-geun – Chungcheongbuk-do Province, Gangwon-do Province, and Incheon Metropolitan City have joined hands to attract the national quantum cluster.
Chungcheongbuk-do announced on the 21st that it launched an ultra-wide consortium named 'K-Quantum Bio Alliance' at the Yonsei University International Campus in Songdo, Incheon, alongside Gangwon-do and Incheon Metropolitan City.
The K-Quantum Bio Alliance is an ultra-wide cooperative model designed for the public bidding of the national quantum cluster designation organized by the Ministry of Science and ICT.
The three municipalities plan to establish an ultra-wide belt to secure an outpost for obtaining global technological sovereignty and serving as the core of national quantum industrialization.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by 130 officials from industry, academia, research institutes, and government agencies of the three municipalities, including Lee Bok-won, Vice Governor for Economic Affairs of Chungcheongbuk-do, Kim Kwang-rae, Vice Governor for Economic Affairs of Gangwon-do, and Ha Byung-pil, Vice Mayor for Administrative Affairs of Incheon.
During the event, the announcement of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) among 14 participating universities and the signing of Letters of Intent (LOI) by 136 institutions and enterprises took place. Cluster development strategies were also shared through lectures delivered by quantum experts from each municipality.
The Ministry of Science and ICT plans to select three national quantum cluster regions through document and presentation uations next month, followed by deliberations by the Quantum Strategy Committee in July, targeting the local governments that applied for the public bidding. The selected regions will carry out quantum-transformation research and development (R&D), expert manpower nurturing, and commercialization and startup support activities.
Vice Governor Lee stated, "We expect that the three municipalities, which specialize in the bio sector, will achieve the quantum cluster designation through ultra-wide cooperation, thereby leaping forward as the center of the quantum-bio industry."
