According to the Chungcheong Regional Data Office on the 31st, the provincial mining and manufacturing production index (original series) for June reached 170.6 (2020=100), surging 33.8 percent year-on-year.

The seasonally adjusted index—which filters out seasonal fluctuations—recorded 162.2, expanding 9.2 percent month-on-month.

By sector, electronic components, computers, and visual/audio/communication equipment—which encompasses semiconductors—soared 66.8 percent compared to the same period last year. Electrical equipment and the electric, gas, and steam supply sectors also posted steep upward trajectories, rising 58.2 percent and 47.7 percent, respectively.

Conversely, textile products and rubber/plastic products declined 29.2 percent and 6.3 percent, respectively, impacted by sustained high crude oil prices.

Mining and manufacturing shipments grew 21.2 percent year-on-year and 7.3 percent month-on-month. Shipments of electronic components, computers, and visual/audio/communication equipment expanded 41.6 percent, while electrical equipment shipments surged 41.0 percent.

Manufacturing inventories remained largely flat, edging up 0.6 percent year-on-year.

During the same period, the large-scale retail sales index recorded 85.3, contracting 4.2 percent compared to the same month last year.
