(Yeongdong=Yonhap News) Reporter Park Byung-ki = Campbell Early and Shine Muscat grapes produced in Yeongdong County, North Chungcheong Province, have headed for export to the United States for the 20th consecutive year.

The Hwanggan Grape Export Crop Association in Yeongdong County announced on the 31st that it shipped 2.1 metric tons of Campbell Early grapes and 4.9 metric tons of Shine Muscat grapes, collected at the Hwanggan Agricultural Cooperatives Produce Distribution Center, to the U.S.

The export unit prices stood at KRW 13,500 (USD 10.15) per 1 kg for Campbell Early and KRW 11,250 (USD 8.46) per 0.6 kg for Shine Muscat—more than double the domestic market rate.

An official from Yeongdong County stated, "Yeongdong grapes, characterized by their sweetness and rich juice, have gained popularity among American consumers, leading to annual exports every year since 2007," adding, "While exports were initially focused on Campbell Early, export volumes of Shine Muscat have been on a rising trend recently."

Yeongdong County is a major grape production hub, accounting for 7.5% (962 hectares) of South Korea's total grape vineyard area.

Among these, 81.3 hectares of vineyards in the Hwanggan-myeon area have been designated as an export complex by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.

Last year, Yeongdong County exported more than 500 metric tons of grapes produced in this region and others to destinations including the U.S., Taiwan, Singapore, and Hong Kong.
