(Cheongju=Yonhap News) Reporter Kim Hyung-woo = Cheongju City is establishing a cooperative ecosystem alongside regional innovation institutions to attract national projects related to high-tech strategic industries, including semiconductors, secondary batteries, and biotechnology.
The city announced on the 2nd that it signed a 'Memorandum of Understanding for Fostering High-Tech Strategic Industries and Mutual Cooperation in Cheongju' with 10 innovation institutions, including the Korea Electronics Technology Institute (KETI), at the Jikji Room of its temporary city hall.
The agreement was signed by KETI, the Korea Testing & Research Institute for Electrical and Electronic Products (KTC), FITI Testing & Research Institute, Korea Basic Science Institute (KBSI), Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology (KRIBB), Osong Medical Innovation Foundation (KBIOHealth), Korea Institute of Ceramic Engineering & Technology (KICET), Korea Testing & Research Institute (KTR), Chungbuk Technopark, and Chungbuk Bio Industry-Academia Convergence Institute.
Under this agreement, the city and participating institutions will jointly plan national public contest projects.
The signatories will also join forces to attract national government projects spanning key high-tech sectors: semiconductors, secondary batteries, and biotechnology.
Furthermore, by jointly utilizing the research and development (R&D) capabilities and testing/uation infrastructure of each institution, the partnership aims to resolve technical bottlenecks faced by local enterprises and support commercialization.
Mayor Jang-seop Lee stated, "Through this collaboration, we will support technological innovation and growth for local enterprises, establishing an industrial ecosystem where new investments and jobs continuously follow to transform Cheongju into a central hub for high-tech industries."
