According to Yonhap News,

Chungbuk-do (North Chungcheong Province) said on March 10th that it plans to hold ‘the first festival for Chinese students’ at the square of Cheongju Art Center on October 1st in order to vitalize the tourism industry and help Chinese students in Korea better understand the region.

The festival, held under the theme of the friendship between Chungbuk and China, will include time for socializing and networking, a Korean song singing contest, a traditional Korean and Chinese costume fashion show which Chungbuk Governor Lee Si-jong will attend, a debate between Korean and Chinese students, a lecture given by celebrities, and experience of Korea’s traditional musical instruments and representative foods of Korea and China.

Korean stars famous in China and Chinese folk singers will perform at the festival. Attendants can also enjoy a magic show and acrobatic feats. Promotional halls will be set up for Chungbuk’s tourism, Korean and Chinese companies, universities, oriental medicine and beauty treatment, and food.

The festival will offer familiarization tours to the venue of 2011 Cheongju International Craft Biennale, the exhibition hall of a famous Korean soap opera, CheongNamDae, a presidential villa of the past, and Munui Cultural Heritage Complex in Cheongwon-gun.

An official of Chungbuk said “there are about 6,500 Chinese students in universities of the Chungcheong region,” and added “we plan to attract more Chinese tourists and expand exchange with China by holding the festival.”
