According to Yonhap News,

Chungbuk-do (North Chungcheong Province) has set out to establish a museum of languages and letters around the world.

According to Chungbuk on March 20th, the Province has decided to found ‘World Language Museum’ and a language research center by 2014 by receiving the state fund of KRW 150 ~ 200 billion, and secure a budget for the project.

The Province plans to secure the state fund by promoting the fact that Buljo Jikji simche yojeol, which is the oldest metal type printings in the world and listed on UNESCO Memory of the World, was printed in Cheongju and Great King Sejong created hangeul, the Korean alphabet, while he stayed near Chojeong Mineral Spring in Cheongwon-gun.

Vice Governor for Administrative Affairs Park Gyeong-guk of Chungbuk explained the grounds for establishing the museum and asked to allocate the expenditures for design in next year’s government budget.

Chungbuk is reviewing the provision of site for the museum.

The Province plans to form ‘the committee to establish World Language Museum’ consisting of about 50 language experts to provide legitimacy for founding the museum and build public consensus.

An official of Chungbuk said “we are committed to crafting consensus on the establishment and successfully building the museum.”
