The 2013 Chungju World Rowing Competition Organizing Committee proclaimed "Tanie" and "Geumi" as the event's official mascot.

The committee invited public participation in making the event's official mascot. Among 197 submitted designs, it selected "Tanie" and "Geumi" created by Jang Hyeong-cheol living in Changwon.

His characters' names are named after Tangeum Lake, where the international rowing competition is to be held. The committee also disclosed the emblem of both characters.

"We are planning to promote the mascots and emblems at the preliminary round of Asian rowing competition for London Olympics, which will be held in Tangeum Lake," said Gang Ho-dong, director of the committee.
