According to Yonhap News,

North Chungcheong Province (Chungbuk) embarks on the industrial-academic-research partnership project to support the future railway and new transportation system in a bid to develop into a future railway industrial hub.

The Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs decided to support 1.6 billion won for the project by 2014.

The future railway and transportation system includes Bi-modality Tram, a hybrid articulated bus that drives both on roads and railway tracks, and wireless low floor tram.

Korea University of Transportation, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology and Graduate School for Green Transportation will operate educational programs to cultivate professionals in railroad.

In addition, Chungbuk will establish an industrial-academic-research-public consultative meeting consisting of 30 relevant companies and research institutes to share information and know-how.

The province is also conducting a feasibility test on the establishment of future railway and new transportation cluster in Osong to develop it into a railway and aviation industrial cluster.

"The future railway and new transportation market is forecast to reach 360 trillion won in 2020," said a Chungbuk official. "We will strengthen the industrial-academic-research partnership to develop Chungbuk into a leading player in the sector."
