(CHEONGJU = Newsis) Chungcheongbuk-do plans to construct the world’s largest floating solar plants in four reservoirs by 2015.

The province signed an investment agreement with the Chungbuk divison of Korea Rural Community Corporation, Green Solution Inc., Shingsung Solar Energy Corporation and Techwin for the installation of the facilities.

Green Solution Inc. and Shinsung Solar Energy Corporation will invest KRW 30 billion to install 10Mw solar power panels with their new module-integrated technologies.

Techwin, on the other hand, will invest a total of KRW 24 billion by 2018 to install 8mW solar power facility in Ochang and other regions’ reservoirs.

The power plants are capable of generating electric for 7,984 households annually.

“By installing the solar panels we will be able to reduce 10,819 tons of carbon dioxide, which is equivalent to planting two million pine trees,” said an official of the province.
