According to Yonhap News,

(JECHEON = Yonhap News) Chungcheongbuk-do Jechon puts its upmost efforts to become a tourism city in 2014.

The city announced on February 11 that after it was designated as “model city for tourism Dure development project” by the Ministry of Culture (MCST), Sports and Tourism, it organized a tourism city promotion committee with the city’s tourism conference and carry out “tourism city of the year” contest.

In accordance with the government’s “tour weeks plan“, the city plans to construct a floating aerodrome, green cable cars, auto camping grounds at the Cheongpung lakeside, and attract private investment to develop accommodation facilities in the region.

It will also push ahead various projects to vitalize the local tourism industry.

The city will provide incentives for bus tours organized by the tourism agencies and KRW 10,000 support for lodging expenses of “Naeilro” ticketholders, and carry out street promotion activities, information sessions and tourism familiarization tours.

It will also run O-Train stamp tour, hold QR marketplaces by using smartphones, run tourism circular buses to prepare for increasing demands by tourists.

The city submitted an application early last month for the MCST’s “tourism city of the year”, which selects three cities and counties among 158 cities and counties nationwide to provide KRW 2.5 billion for tourism development projects.

“We will promote the city by being selected as the “tourism city of the year”, and concentrate our all administrative power to help the city make a new leap forward as the city of tourism,” said a city official.
