According to Yonhap News,

(CHEONGJU = Yonhap News) The North Chungcheong Province is set to invest a total of KRW 947.8 billion in 69 business projects by 2020 to transform the province into a hub of the organic farming industry.

According to the province on March 20, a total of KRW 439.5 billion and KRW 295.1 billion will be invested in developing infrastructure for the production of organic products and developing an organic farming special zone, respectively.

In addition, the province will invest KRW 80.6 billion in fostering the organic-fusion industries, KRW 77 billion in stabilizing market demand, KRW 30.5 billion in hosting the International Organic Expo 2014 and KRW 18 billion in establishing security management system and fostering skilled workforce.

The province held a proclamation ceremony for “Organic-specialized province” last November and announced the “Organic Chungbuk 2020”, a policy objective set by the province.

Once the objective is achieved, the province is expected to see a rise in organic and pesticide-free products from 4.2 percent last year to 20 percent in the year of 2020.

Two organic special zones will also be established within the province.

In order to push ahead the development of policies related to the organic industry, Chungbuk plans to organize a task force that supervises the seeds cultivation, logistics, livestock and forest industries.

It also decided to establish an organic business management team and push ahead its business projects such as the establishment of organic certification authority and school meal production facility in an effort to raise efficiency of the organic product production complexes.

“Together with province’s other strategic industries such as bio and solar power industries, the organic industry will help the province grow into the hub of organic products in Korea,” said an official of Chungbuk.
