According to Yonhap News,

(CHEONGJU=Yonhap News) An international bioindustry exposition underway in this provincial town has attracted more than 700,000 visitors in the first 13 days of opening, organizers said Friday, raising hopes the little-heralded city could emerge as a leading hub of biotechnology.

The Osong International Bio Industry Exposition kicked off on Sept. 26 for a 17-day run. The brainchild of the local government and the trade ministry, the event hopes to garner at least 800,000 visitors by Sunday's closing.

With the closing just two days away, organizers said they appeared to be well on their way to overtaking the target visitor mark and putting Osong, the host city some 120 kilometers south of Seoul, on the global biotechnology map.

Organizers attributed their success to planning that considered many different audiences. Blown-up models of human organs and rides themed around human cells have been a hit among children, while women have been able to receive free beauty consultations and try out new makeup free of charge.

For the elderly, there are free blood tests that screen them for various types of cancer and cardiovascular diseases.

On the corporate side, more than 3,000 buyers from in and out of the country came to see the latest bio innovations on display. Deals worth 117.2 billion won worth have been sealed so far, with more than 300 local and foreign companies participating.
