According to Yonhap News,

(GANGNEUNG=Yonhap News) Gangneung City decided to expand its tourism contents and infrastructure, as more tourists visited the City after the KTX Gangneung line opened.

According to the City government on January 9, 1,669 tourists visited the City in 2018, a 14 percent increase from 2017.

Since the KTX line extended to Gangneung, popularized "Food Tour" trend attracted people to the City's Jungang Market. As a response, the City will invest KRW 200 million this year to establish "Weekend Busking Zones" at Gangneung Station, Wolhwa Street and Jungang Market.

Also, the City will host the Gwanno Mask Performance once every weekend at Ojukheon starting next month.

Gangneung City will develop tour programs that allows tourists to play various sports such as ice hockey and curling at 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics sports facilities.

The City plans to offer new tour packages linked with the Pyeongchang Olympics accommodations. It will also facilitate private businesses associated with tourist attractions.

The year 2019 marks a fresh new start of the City's tourism industry, with the City's strong commitment to tourism marketing at home and abroad.
