Gangneung City, to Conduct ‘Sales Diplomacy’ to Boost Medical Tourism

Gangneung City, Gangwon Province said on February 13th that it would aggressively pursue international exchange in order to grow into a medical tourism hub city in Northeast Asia.

 

According to Gangneung City, the Mayor of Oskemen, Kazakhstan visited Gangneung in January to visit Gangneung Asan Hospital, Dongin Hospital and medical facilities. The Mayor expressed his wish to have exchange in medical tourism and other areas.

 

Gangneung Mayor Choi Myeong-hui will visit Oskemen this May to discuss bilateral exchanges.

 

In June, Mayor Choi will attend the ceremony marking the 350th anniversary of Irkutsk, Russia to forge a sisterhood relationship and discuss practical exchange in the medical tourism industry.

 

Mayor Choi and his visiting team will also attend an international workshop of ICCN and visit Mongolia in September to discuss exchange to vitalize medical tourism, and visit Cambodia to conduct sales diplomacy to attract medical tourisms in November.

 

Gangneung City has pristine nature and plans to differentiate its tourism by fully utilizing its deep water and indigenous products and building a medical tourism belt linking China, Russia, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, and Cambodia.

 

Mayor Choi said “for Gangneung to grow into a global tourism city, we need to draw medical tourists on the back of our pristine natural environment, excellent medical technologies and facilities,” and added “we plan to grow our City into Northeast Asia’s medical tourism hub city through exchange with not only current sister cities in China and Japan but also cities in many other countries including Russia, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, and Cambodia.”
