Mt. Taebaek Snow Festival begins with the opening of snow sculpture exhibitions on Jan. 27. Around Danggol Square in Mt. Taebaek Provincial Park, 64 artworks are on display at Hwangji Pond, the downtown public park and Taebaek Station. The white snow sculptures look more fascinated with lights at night.
Visitors can have fun at various entertainment facilities including igloo cafes (30 meters in diameter), slides (30 meters in length), rafting (50 meters in length) and dog sleds at the provincial park.
The festival will be held for 10 days until Feb. 5 at the Mt. Taebaek Provincial Park, Hwangji Pond and O2 Resort and downtown area. The opening ceremony begins with "Massive Snow Fight with 2012 People" held on the outdoor special stage in front of Ski House at O2 Resort at 6:00 P.M. on Jan. 27.
The snow fight event is the representative program with 5,387 participants even authorized by the Guinness World Records Limited in 2010.
In addition, popular K-pop singers, such as Son Ho-yeong and Hyeon Jin-yeong, are scheduled to perform on the stage with 560 shots of fireworks.
The hiking trip to Mt. Taebaek starts on the last day of the festival.
An official at Taebaek said, "We'd like to invite all of you to the beautiful city of Taebaek where you can enjoy winter."
