According to Yonhap News,

Dongbu Generation Samcheok signed an MOU with Samcheok City to establish the Green Samcheok Enertopia, a large-scale comprehensive energy industrial complex, to be established on a 630,000 pyeong-land in Samcheok with the investment worth 14 trillion won.

The three-phase project includes the establishment of the Generation Industrial Complex, Green Energy Industrial Complex and Clean Energy R&D Complex.

Samcheok promised to provide all possible administrative supports to ensure that the first-phase project of establishing the Generation Industrial Complex should be included in the 6th national basic plan on power supply.

A total of 11 trillion won will be injected into building a 6,000 MW-grade eco-friendly thermal power plant and other facilities for renewable energy sources including fuel cells and photovoltaic, wind power and hydrogen power generation.

The Green Energy Industrial Complex will include manufacturing facilities for semiconductor, polysilicon and energy equipments, while the Clean Energy R&D Complex will focus on developing carbon capture and storage technology and bio fuels utilizing microalgae.

About three trillion won will be invested in both projects.

The establishment project for Green Samcheok Enertopia will be conducted by Dongbu's affiliates including Dongbu HiTek and Dongbu Construction.

Dongbu has already made necessary steps for the establishment of Dongbu Generation Samcheok after completing the environmental impact assessment and feasibility test for construction.

Dongbu Generation Dangjin is moving towards building Dongbu Green Power Plant, a 1,000 MW-grade eco-friendly coal-fired thermal power plant, in Dangjin as a part of the 5th national basic plan on power supply designated in the late 2010.

A total of 2.2 trillion won will be invested to build the first private thermal power plant, scheduled for completion in 2015.

Dongbu is aiming at growing into a leading private thermal power and energy company in Korea with the establishment of Dongbu Green Power Plant and Green Samcheok Enertopita.
