According to Yonhap News,

Deutsche Presse Agentur (DPA) reported that Jacques Rogge, the President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), and Philip Craven, the President of International Paralympic Committee (IPC), reached an an agreement that Olympic and Paralympic Games will be held in the same city until 2020.

At first, both committees signed an agreement in June, 2011 that Olympic and Paralympic Games will be held in the same city until 2016.

Unless the agreement is extended through to 2016, Pyeonchang won't be able to host the Paralympics.

However, as it is extended up to 2020, Pyeongchang, selected as the host city of the 2018 Winter Olympics, will also organize the Paralympics.

Currently, Spain's Madrid, Turkey's Istanbul and Japan's Tokyo are competing to win the bid for the 2020 Winter Olympics.

Many take it for granted that Olympic and Paralympic Games are held in the same city, but IOC and IPC are different independent organizations.

Actually, IOC once asked IPC not to use the work of "lympic."

It was not until the 1988 Seoul Olympics that Paralympics were held at the host city of the Olympics.

IOC President Rogge said, "I'm pleased to extend our cooperation to 2020. IPC is playing a substantial role in the Olympics."

IPC President Craven also said, "Ahead of the largest Paralympics in history in London, I'm honored to deliver the important message."
