As of September, Chuncheon City, Gangwon Province saw a year-on-year increase of 14.5 percent in the number of tourists to 7.39 million, recording the highest growth rate ever before. The remarkable growth seemed to be attributable to improving transportation infrastructures including highways and railways.
Especially the growth was led by foreign tourists. The number of foreign visitors to Chuncheon during the January-September period recorded 465,000, already surpassing 458,000, the figure posted during the January-December period of the last year.
"Encouraged by improving tourist facilities and development of new tour programs, the number of domestic and overseas tourists has gradually increased," said a Chuncheon official. "The figure is expected to mark 10 million this year with improving transportation networks including highways and railways."
