According to Yonhap News,

The number of foreign visitors to Fun Ski Festival, Gangwon-do (province)'s representative winter tourism package, which has lasted from December 12, 2012 to March 2, 2013, is forecast to reach a record high.

Foreign visitors will be projected to number 3,500, up 12 percent on-year. Most of them come from China and Southeast Asia including Hong Kong, Singapore and Taiwan.

Fun Ski Festival marks the 15th anniversary this year, emerging as one of the exciting tourism products by integrating winter sports, tourism and entertainment.

Gangwon's aggressive promotion efforts result in attracting about 200 Chinese people from Yunnan, Shanghai and Guangzhou.

In addition, Ru-Ski Festival that exclusively focuses on visitors from the Siberian region will be joined by 400 Russian skiers this year.

The remarkably increasing number of foreign visitors seems attributable to a growing awareness of Gangwon in the world thanks to the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics to be held in Pyeongchang, Gangwon and the province-led promotion activities in the Southeast Asian region that doesn't have winter.

Fun Ski Festival, organized by Gangwon Province and Korea Tourism Organization, began in 1998 in a bid to entice tourists in winter, while Ru-Ski Festival was established in 2009 by the province to particularly lure skiers from Russian Far East.
