Easter Dream, an international ferry, which connects Donghae Port in Gangwon-do (province) and Vladivostok, Russia and Sakaiminato, Japan, reported to have seen a slight increase in shipments last year from a year earlier, partly due to the rising number of passengers and strong exports of heavy machinery and automobiles to Russia.

Passengers numbered 48,744, up 8 percent year on year in 2012.

By destination, the number of domestic passengers amounted to 30,699, Japanese to 963, Russian to 15,987 and others to 1,095.

Cargoes recorded a year-on-year increase of 6 percent to 35,450.

Heavy machinery and automobiles for exports account for 77 percent of the total shipments of the ferry between Donghae and Vladivostok and agricultural and fishery products take up most of the shipments of the ferry between Donghae and Sakaiminato.

DAE A EXPRESS SHIPPING will re-operate ferries connecting Sokcho and Zarubino and Vladivostok, Russia in March that have been suspended since October 2010.

Korea Cruise Marketing will operate new ferries between Sokcho and Kitakyushu and Vladivostok in the first half of this year.
