Gangwon Opens Sejong Office in North Chungcheong Province

The Gangwon Provincial Government has opened a Sejong office, responsible for activities in relation to transfer of Seoul-located ministries to Sejon-si (City).
On March 11, the opening ceremony was held at the Public Health and Environment Research Institute in Chungcheongbuk-do (Province), with Vice Governor Choi Du-young of Gangwon-do (Province) in attendance.
It is the second Sejong office, and the first one was opened by Chungcheongbuk-do. It will start operation with three employees, including a duty director.
In addition to post-transfer management of six major ministries, the office will address current issues, secure a budget, and provide support to ministries, which will be located inside the government office building in Sejong-si.
Gangwon-do is planning to gradually move the functions of the Seoul office to the Sejong office by the end of 2014, when transfer ends.
Vice governor of Gangwon addressed at the opening ceremony, “The Sejong office will start with three employees, but its functions and manpower will be increased by the time transfer ends. We will support the office to successfully perform its role and functions.”
Meanwhile, the Gangwon Provincial Government planned to open the office downtown in Sejong-si (City). Since the downtown area is not equipped with residential facilities, however, Gangwon-do suggested Osong as an appropriate location. The Public Health and Environment Research Institute has a KTX station and is 15 minutes away from Sejong-si.
