Gangwon Province announced Sunday that Governor Choi Moon-soon visits Shanghai, China, the largest global tourism market to attract investment.
The visit aims to promote safety of Korean tourism as a decrease in foreign visitors is concerned due to threats provoked by North Korea.
Governor Choi will visit Ctrip, the largest Chinese online travel agency, to sign an agreement to extend flight service between Yangyang and Shanghai.
Tourism information session and a press conference will also be held for local tourism industry insiders and around 100 reporters. Travel agencies from Korea and China will have a chance to share information and provide consulting.
Governor Choi will also visit Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency’s Korea Business Center in Shanghai to request cooperation for promoting investment in East Sea Free Economic Zone.
The number of foreigner visited Namiseom Island, one of the popular destinations, decreased by 10 percent year-on-year from 60 thousand to 54 thousand in April.
