Chuncheon to Build World's Largest Space Camp

(CHUNCHEON = Newsis) Gangwon Province will establish Space Camp Korea, the world’s largest space science education center in Chuncheon.

Choi Moon-soon, governor of Gangwon Porvince, representatives from the U.S Space & Rocket Center, president of Mirinae Development Corp. and managing director of Kyobo Securities gathered at Gangwon Provincial government on 4th to sign an MOU for the construction of Space Camp Korea.

The space camp, with 1.94 million square meters of lots, is expected to provide the country’s young people a chance to experience the space science of National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). The country’s interest in space science picked up due to successful launch of Naro.

Mirinae Development Corp. has negotiated an agreement to establish a space campe in Chuncheon with US Space & Rocket Center (Alabama) since 2013.

The agreement allows the US Space & Rocket Center to provide real space rockets, various equipment, space science programs, dispatch of technician and lecture from spacemen to allow diverse experiences to Korea.

Construction of the largest space rocket museum in Asia is also expected to have great influence on the development of the country’s space science.

The agreement also includes construction of an observatory and a simulation facility for spaceship and training, education programs including aviation, space rocket production and robot engineering.

The complex also will have entertainment infrastructure such as 4D Technology trial center, a game park and Smart Bike. Lodging facilities including dome house village, condominium will also be built within the complex.

Commercial and entertainment facilities such as shopping center, spa, hotel, and small and medium enterprises training center, youth center will be built in the complex.

Chuncheon plans to begin construction in the second half of 2014 and complete in the late 2016.

“The task force will be formed to push ahead construction and support licensing procedure to prevent any setback to the project. The complex is also under consideration for designation as a foreign investment zone to provide incentives including tax reduction.” The official of Gangwon Province said.
