(CHUNCHEON = Newsis) Gangwon-do kicked off its plan to concentrate on fostering the three dimension (3D) printing industry, a high technology that is expected to bring a third industrial revolution, as its new strategic industry for the future.

3D printing technology is a process of making a three-dimensional solid object of virtually any shape from a digital model. It emerges as a core technology that leads a new paradigm in the manufacturing industry with enormous potential to create a synergy effect with other industries through convergence.

Gangwon plans to foster its 3D printing industry as its new growth engine in the future.

It will establish a 3D printing technology center in cooperation with the Gangwon regional division of the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology to actively carry out various projects in the future.

To this end, the province secured a KRW 300 million budget, and plans to expand its budget for the project.

It will also actively participate in the government projects to host various government-funded projects.

By continued effort, the province expects to develop 3D printing-related manufacturing technologies, develop 3D printing materials by using nonferrous metals in the province, train technical professionals and establish a corporation support system.

The province aims to enhance competitiveness of its medical appliance industry, modernize the auto parts industry, develop high-functional nonferrous metals industry, and stimulate startups by introducing new industries.

Considering the fact that the province’s 3D printing industry is still in its early stage compared to that of other developed nations, Gangwon plans to cooperate with the government by connecting the project with the government policies.
