Kangwon Province seeks to nurture 4 major Cutting Edge Industries

(CHUNCHEON=Yonhap News) Gangwon-do decided to embark on ‘cutting edge industry roadmap’ to create jobs and vitalize the economy. The province announced June 8 that it selected 4 major cutting edge industries and 9 core industries.

9 core industries mainly consist of secondary industries, in areas of medicine, marine, food biology, electronic medical device, advanced materials, plasma, knowledge contents, disaster prevention, and IT conversion. Cutting edge industries revolve around 3 major concepts of ‘wellness, medical welfare and rest.

The province seeks to nurture the above industries, as well as support and strengthen primary & tertiary industries. It will invest KRW 23.5 billion in strengthening science technology, KRW 9 billion in nurturing materials industry, and KRW 5.6 billion in nurturing medical device industry. A total amount of KRW 79.9 billion will be invested in 37 industries, covering 8 areas.

“By focusing on nurturing cutting edge industries, we will realize creative economy, create jobs and vitalize the local economy. A profit of KRW 4.5 trillion will be earned by these industries,” said Choi Jung-hoon, said an official from the province.
