Gangwon Signs MOU with China’s Sichuan to Strengthen Friendly Relations

(CHUNCHEON=Yonhap News)Gangwon Province signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with China’s Sichuan Province to strengthen their friendly relationship.

Gangwon Governor Choi Moon-soon and Sichuan Governor Wei Hong have discussed ways to cooperate in tourism, trade, investment, education, culture and sports before signing the MOU at Namiseom Island, Chuncheon.

The friendly ties between the two provinces began when Gangwon donated KRW 473 million to Sichuan to help the province recover from the earthquake in 2013.

Governor Wei Hong suggested to sign an MOU on friendly relations to show their gratitude for the contribution of Gangwon,

The two parties have agreed to revitalize bilateral trade and investment through various activities including attracting more tourists and participating in GTI Expo.

“The western region of China accounts for 27 percent of the total Chinese population. The markets in this region have a great potential for development and we, therefore, will strive to enter these markets,” said Governor Choi.
