Gangwon Province made an announcement on May 2 that the municipal authorities’ project to form a research center to develop monoclonal antibody drugs in Hongcheon-gun has been approved by the Ministry of Trade, Investment and Energy (MOTIE), allowing them to secure KRW 20 billion budgets.
The project is part of the province-led plan to facilitate a community R&D institute studying therapeutic antitoxins, as a means to better cope with not only any possible infectious disease outbreak in the future, but incurable diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease or cancer.
Pouring nearly KRW 20 billion from the year 2022 into the project over the next three years, the province is set to facilitate a space and infrastructure that enables identifying medicine materials to develop therapeutic antibodies, which is anticipated to raise KRW 48.8 worth of value-added creation effects and employment inducing effects, equivalent to, 500 new jobs.
