Gangwon-do announced on March 31 that it had secured KRW 6 billion government funding after being selected for the 'Digital Convergence Automobile Parts Innovation Support Center Construction' project hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE).

The provincial government plans to invest KRW 17 billion national and local funding by 2025 on the site of Halla University in Wonju to build future car parts manufacturing facilities, digital twin systems, and parts testing/analysis/prototyping equipment to be used jointly by companies.

The purpose of the Auto Parts Innovation Support Center is to improve the performance of future cars' materials and parts by using digital convergence technology and to foster the parts industry.

The province plans to complete the construction of the center by the second half of next year and set up related facilities by 2025.
