According to Yonhap News,

The Chuncheon Bio Industry Foundation (CBF) in Chuncheon-si, Gangwon-do, will begin establishing the foundation for In Vitro Diagnosis (IVD) and the bio-industry.

The CBF signed an MOU with the Korea In Vitro Diagnostic Association in Hupyeong-dong Bio Town and agreed to cooperate in nurturing experts in the IVD-realted bio industry.

The main contents of the MOU include survey, research, discovery, and policy setting of the national and regional bio-industry, training of experts in biopharmaceuticals and medical devices, and support for R&D and technology commercialization of startups.

The goal is to establish an ecosystem ranging from discovering to nurturing diagnostic-specialized companies, which will enable preemptively response to new infectious diseases such as COVID-19.

Previously, the CBF was selected for a smart specialization infrastructure establishment project by the MOTIE since 2020, and is building the nation's first industrial foundation for the IVD-specialty industry.
