According to Yonhap News,

On Feb. 24, Yangyang-gun, Gangwon, revealed its plan to proceed with establishing the ward library with an aim to complete the construction by the end of next year.

The ward says the condition of the only existing public library affiliated with the Ministry of Education is so poor that it fails to meet the expectation of local residents in terms of information, culture, and art service.

In response, the local authority decided to break ground for the future two-floor library with a total floor level of 1,500 ㎡ by investing KRW 6 billion.

The library will be equipped with study rooms, multi-purpose rooms, lecture rooms, book cafes, etc.

After going through the executive process necessary for the library construction, the ward plans to start the construction next January and complete it no later than Dec. 2024.

In the meantime, the ward envisions building a library that can serve as a cultural complex where people can enjoy diverse cultural activities other than reading books.

Kim Jin-ha, head of Yangyang-gun, mentioned, "I expect that the soon-to-be-built library will fulfill its role as a cultural complex that can meet the local residents' needs."
