According to Yonhap News,

The tourism industry in Taebaek, Gangwon province is now recovering fast after suffering from a severe setback during the Pandemic.

According to the data released by the Taebaek Chamber of Commerce and Industry in the first quarter of 2023, the number of visitors to popular tourist attractions in the region, such as Taebaeksan National Park, Taebaek Paleozoic Museum, 365 Safetown, and Yongyeon cave recorded 221,940.

That is over twice (+104%) the number from the same period last year, 108,887.

However, it appears to take some time for the region's tourism industry to completely return to the level of the pre-Covid era.

An insider of the Taebaek Chamber of Commerce and Industry said, "Ramping up our efforts to promote tourist attractions of Taebaek and developing new tour programs by tapping on our beautiful nature is important to recover the local economy which has been weighed down with the protracted Covid-19 Pandemic."
