According to Yonhap News,

Chuncheon-si, Gangwon State, has decided to join forces with Kangwon National University (KNU) to cultivate talented people in the field of the food technology industry.

Food technology is a combination of food and technology.

It is a new industry that combines advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, and biotechnology with overall process of food production, distribution, and consumption.

Food technology is limelight as it is expected not only to solve the problem of food shortage, but also to enable green and efficient food production and consumption.

In this regard, Chuncheon's Mayor signed the MOU with KNA's President for mutual cooperation in fostering talent.

This MOU aims both to discover local talents in food technology and to cultivate experts in related fields.

Previously, the city has established and operated a unit dedicated to food technology in August last year, and the KNU opened a graduate course (Food Biotech Department) of food technology, which is expected to receive six new students (4 in masters, 2 in doctors) in March this year.

Furthermore, the city enacted an ordinance to foster and support the food technology industry for the first time in Korea on November 16 last year.

Chuncheon's Mayor said, "We expect that this MOU will contribute to the development of food-related industries by cultivating professionals who will lead the local food technology industry and the successful operation of KNU's food biotech department."
