Governors Association of the Republic of Korea held Luncheon Meeting with Foreign Missions in Korea
Governors Association of the Republic of Korea (GAOK) announced that it will hold the "2024 Luncheon Meeting with Foreign Missions in Korea" at the Shilla Hotel Guest House in Seoul.
This Luncheon Meeting is an event to strengthen cooperation between local governments and foreign missions in Korea, marking its 15th anniversary this year. It is meaningful in that local governments play an important role in the international diplomacy, serving as a venue to demonstrate the value of global cooperation.
This year, more than 80 foreign ambassadors in Korea from 78 countries will be participating, the largest ever.
At the Luncheon meeting, for the first time, local specialties from seven cities and provinces including Gangwon, Gyeongnam, Gyeongbuk, Busan, Ulsan, Jeonbuk, and Chungbuk will be promoted at the pre-reception place in cooperation with Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) Youth and Local Diplomacy Team.
Chungbuk-do will present major international events scheduled for next year, including "Yeongdong World Traditional Music & Arts Expo", "Korean Medicine Bio Fair in Jecheon", while Gyeongbuk-do present "APEC Summit".
Chairman of the GAOK said, "signing the cooperation MOU with the MOFA this year, after signing the MOU with the foreign missions in Korea to support local diplomacy, has pave the way for systematic support for diplomatic activities between local governments," adding that "it will be an important stepping stone in opening a new chapter of local diplomacy."
