Chuncheon-si in Gangwon State is teaming up with Gwacheon-si in Gyeonggi Province to apply for the "Food Tech Research Support Center" project.

According to Chuncheon-si on January 8th, a memorandum of understanding (MOU) ceremony was held this afternoon at Gwacheon City Hall, attended by Chuncheon Mayor, Gwacheon Mayor, and , the Chairman of the World Food Tech Council, to establish an innovation ecosystem for the food tech industry.

Under this agreement, Chuncheon and Gwacheon plan to jointly submit an optimal proposal for the Food Tech Research Support Center project.

Chuncheon-si expects that collaborating with Gwacheon will create synergies.

The Food Tech Research Support Center is a key facility designed to support an innovative cluster where food tech companies, universities, research institutions, and small and medium-sized food companies collaborate to build a regional food tech industry ecosystem.

If selected for the project, Chuncheon and Gwacheon will be able to utilize a total of KRW 10.5 billion over three years for the research support center’s facilities, equipment, and technology verification costs.

According to the agreement, Chuncheon will strengthen the competitiveness of the food tech industry by leveraging the unique regional characteristics and the expertise of the World Food Tech Council, while also laying the foundation for sustainable growth.

In particular, Chuncheon will work with the Chuncheon Bio Industry Promotion Agency to build and operate advanced manufacturing facilities for technology verification and product production.

Meanwhile, Gwacheon will use its geographical advantage in securing skilled manpower and is expected to carry out platform and data construction based on artificial intelligence (AI), as well as algorithm development services in collaboration with Seoul National University.

Chuncheon's mayor emphasized, "We will mobilize all our resources to build a foodtech-based agricultural ecosystem," and said, "This agreement will bring innovation to the local and national food tech industries."
