According to Yonhap News,

Chuncheon, Gangwon State is set to emerge as a hub for 'Food Tech,' where food and advanced technology are converging.

Chuncheon's mayor held a press conference at City Hall on March 4, announcing, "Recently, Chuncheon has been jointly selected with Gwacheon, Gyeonggi-do for the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (MAFRA)' Food Tech Research Support Center program."

The Food Tech Research Support Center is a base facility that supports food companies in creating prototypes, conducting technological demonstrations, and carrying out research and development, all based on agricultural products.

As a result of being selected for this program, the city plans to invest a total of KRW 10.5 billion, including KRW 5.25 billion in national funds, by 2027 to establish a base for the Food Tech industry.

Chuncheon has been selected in the area of 'personalized food,' which involves researching and supporting technologies for manufacturing and delivering customized food products based on scientific data such as life cycle, diseases, and genetics.

The city aims to create an ecosystem for the personalized food industry to thrive in step with the growing trend of an aging population and hyper-personalized consumption.

To achieve this, Chuncheon will leverage the expertise of local universities and research institutions to support related companies in building a commercialization foundation in the Food Tech field.

Notably, this research support center selection has been highly praised for Chuncheon's collaborative strategy with Gwacheon.

Chuncheon specializes in manufacturing, while Gwacheon focuses on design and service, creating a complementary and cooperative dynamic.

The Research Support Center will be established within the Bioindustry Foundation, promoting synergy with local businesses, universities, and research institutions.
